Art Gallery of South Australia display shield purchased from Deutscher and Hackett

Acquired by the Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide, from Deutscher and Hackett’s May auction Important Aboriginal and Oceanic Art, the transitional shield is now on display in the gallery’s Elder Wing. Profiled in the current edition of Articulate, since the time of purchase the shield has been identified by the staff of the Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australian Museum as being the work of the Adnyamathanha people. For further information regarding this interesting object, please see the article in Articulate by Nici Cumpston, Associate Curator of Australian Paintings, Sculpture and Indigenous Art.
