Catalogue text

As with the majority of the artist's work, this painting depicts rockholes and country near Pirupa Akla (the Olgas and Uluru) and relates to memories of the artist's travels as a young man when he journeyed to Areyonga and Haasts Bluff. His high regard as a painter came only in the last years of his life when in late 2005, aged in his mid 80s he began producing works of art, after requesting paints and canvases from Glenis Wilkins, the art co-ordinator at Watiyawanu Artists.

This painting is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Watiyawanu Artists of Amunturrungu, Mt Liebig
