Catalogue text

This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Karen Brown Gallery, Darwin that states:
"Fresh Water springs in my country portray the lush and rich country of the Roper River. Each panel gives a detail of the flora and fauna of the region.
Gertie includes the wide variety of grasses, the rocky outcrops, and the pockets of bird life circling around the waterholes.Throughout the painting – birds, traditional baskets and other material cultural objects including tools and weapons are literally woven into the elements of the landscape. They appear as part of the landscape and demonstrate the intimate relationship between Gertie and her country."
