Catalogue text
Elektra was originally written in 500 BC by the Greek scholar, Sophocles, and has since been retold in many forms, including Sir Robert Helpmann's Royal Ballet production during the early 1960s at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. This work is a study for the backdrops and costumes which Boyd produced for the Royal Ballet production based upon Malcolm Arnold's version of the Greek tragedy.
