Catalogue text

This painting is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Marrawuddi Gallery which states: 'Wakkewakken are a type of legless Sugarbag Spirit associated with Ankung Djang, a major Sugarbag complex in Mok Clan estate in the Liverpool River. Here they live deep in the cold water at places like Djabidi Bakoluy, Bibiddoy and at Ngaldaddubbe. During the day the Spirits leave their homes and move around the country gathering an edible bush fruit called Anwak (Leea Ruba). She lives at these places with Ngalyod the Rainbow Serpent and other Sugarbag Spirits.'
