Catalogue text

This work is accompanied by a certificate from Ninuku Arts which states: ‘This painting depicts the various bush tucker that is found around the artist’s country close to Victory Downs in the Northern Territory in Yankunytjatjara country. Lots of women were at this site collecting kampurarpa (bush tomatoes) and wayanu (quandong). A man came along and asked the women for the mai (food) but the women didn’t give any to him. So the man had no mai. After that the man left and the women fed all the mai to the tjitji (children) and the children were full-up. The man came back again and the group went together to Pangkupiri which is near Tjukula and close to the artist’s mother’s country. The various shapes in this painting represent the bush tucker found at this site.’
