Works by Margaret Preston, Roland Wakelin in Deutscher and Hackett Sydney sale

Peter Fish, The Australian Financial Review, Thursday 24 July 2014.

An early and important Margaret Preston, painted in 1929, and two historic Roland Wakelins have joined the line-up for Deutscher and Hackett’s Sydney sale on August 27.

Other highlights will include Brett Whiteley’s Orange Fruit Dove, Fiji from 1969, Lloyd Rees’s Landscape from 1945, and Clifton Pugh’s Feral Cat.

The Whiteley, a graceful depiction showing the bird on a nest with its eggs, is an almost ethereal painting in shades of orange and brown. D&H Sydney director Damian Hackett describes it as a major work of its type –“it’s beautiful, elegant and early", he says. It carries a pre-sale estimate of $650,000 to $850,000.
